Lois Farfel Stark earned an Emmy making documentary specials for NBC Network News, covering countries in tension and transition. She filmed Abu Dhabi’s catapult to the modern world, Israel after the Six Day War, Liberia’s social split, Northern Ireland’s religious conflict and Cuba ten years after their revolution. Other films on architecture, medical research, globalization, artists and social issues have earned Golds at CINE and the International Film Festival of the Americas.

She is the author of The Telling Image: Shapes of Changing Times, an illustrated tour from migratory to modern times, unveiling how shape reveals the mental map of a culture.  Her TEDx talk is titled Shape: Hiding in Plain Sight.

In civic life, she served on the board of Sarah Lawrence College, the Alley Theatre, Texas Children’s Hospital, St. John’s School, Humanities Texas, Texas Commission on the Arts, the Harry Ransom Center, Federal Reserve Board of Dallas Small Business Committee, the Joseph Campbell Foundation, and Women’s Leadership Board of Harvard’s Kennedy School. She was elected to the Philosophical Society of Texas. She is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College and has two Master of Art degrees in education and communications.
