Entrepreneur in the for profit and not for profit sectors, independent director, author and lecturer, past CEO and chair of NYSE company.

In 1983 Marcy became the youngest woman president of a NYSE company later serving as CEO and chair of Syms Corp. She led the company from a New York based retailer to a 50 store chain in 16 state expanding the reach of the “Educated Consumer” market.

Marcy was a founding trustee of the Sy Syms Foundation and has served as president since 1997. Since its inception the foundation has awarded over 60 million dollars in grants in science, education and the arts. 

Starting with her service on the Midlantic Bank board she has served on several public company boards. Presently she serves as a director of Benco Dental, the third largest distributor of dental equipment and office design in the US.

Most recently Marcy left the ERA Coalition/Fund for Women’s Equality after the 38th State ratified the Amendment to start the ERA Project at Columbia Law School.

She earned an MS in public relations from BU and received two honorary doctorates.
