Reo Hayashizaki’s passion is health care. Ever since he was a little kid, Reo has been in awe of the small miracles that doctors, nurses, and therapists performed at the hospital day-in and day-out. Now, he wants to partner with healthcare personnel to broaden access to care, enhance its quality, and help usher in the next generation of patient care. To accomplish this goal, he hopes to coalesce the financial knowledge that he gained from a Healthcare Business degree from the University of Oklahoma with the legal experience at Harvard Law School and the operational insights from the Harvard Chan School of Public Health to tackle the nation’s $4.5 trillion health care problem. Prior to pursuing the JD/MPH, Reo was a financial analyst at hospital system in Oklahoma where he developed pro formas to analyze the financial viability of various healthcare project proposals. He was also an intern at the Oklahoma Health Care Authority (which oversaw Oklahoma’s Medicaid program) where he saw first-hand just how crucial safety net programs were to getting people access to much needed care. Furthermore, Reo was an intern at Congressman Tom Cole’s office where he caught a glimpse into the political process which crafted legislation impacting hundreds of millions of people. After completing my degrees, Reo hopes to lead academic medical institutions and other public-health oriented organizations to reach new heights by not only focusing on the patients of today but also by proactively innovating to address the needs of the patients of the future. Reo knows that he cannot do this alone, so he is excited to be surrounded by some of the brightest minds in health care and the public sector to learn from and grow with each other.
