Ahmed Awadalla is a dedicated graduate student accepted into the Mid-Career Master’s in Public Administration Edward S. Mason Program (Mason Program), and he recently finished his mission with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in northeast Syria. He is from Egypt, where he grew up in a small village north of Cairo, and started his career as a teacher in 2004. In 2007, Ahmed received a scholarship through the State Department to travel to the US and obtain an Associate degree from Northampton Community College. Determined to succeed, Ahmed continued his education successfully in the US, and received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science with minors in Economics and International Studies from Kutztown University. His thirst for knowledge continued leading him to the United Kingdom, and the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), from where he graduated from in 2014 with an MSc in International Relations. The opportunities Ahmed obtained through his education led him to develop a successful career with the ICRC with whom he has been working for the past eight years. Starting from the position of an ICRC delegate in Iraq, Ahmed built his professional career in the organization and managed complex humanitarian operations in conflict-affected areas such as Iraq, Nigeria, Ukraine, Moldova, and Syria. These positions require tactful leadership, and strategic thinking, which Ahmed developed and implemented over the years in various managerial positions such as Head of Sub-delegation and Head of Operations. Ahmed’s long-term goal is to continue his career in humanitarian diplomacy, peacekeeping, or the government sectors. He believes that the Mid-Career MPA program will enable him to pursue his intellectual interests, develop new skills, and engage in intellectual debates and analysis with the academic and professional community in addition to the connection with other prospected intellectuals from various countries around the world.
