Carol Penn established her career as an international art dealer, appraiser, and consultant. She is also managing partner in her family’s real estate investment company. Through her family foundation, she supports projects that focus on health and women’s issues. Her interest in medical research is reflected in her board membership of Mt. Sinai Hospital in Florida and in funding organizations including the NYU Women’s Wellness Clinic, Christopher Reeve Foundation, and the LIJ/North Shore University Hospital, where family funding has provided transportation for patients in need. Carol has supported such organizations as Migdal Ohr, which has improved the health and educational prospects for 6,000 refugees in Israel, and the East Harlem Tutorial Program, which strives to improve academic skills for 500 children annually. She has served on several museum boards, including the Nassau County Museum and the Tel Aviv Museum and is a patron for many other renowned art institutions. She lectured at the Cloisters Museum of Medieval Art, worked in the sculpture department at Christie’s Auction House, and was director of the Weintraub Gallery in New York. While raising four children, Carol directed much of her efforts to community education, including serving on the Great Neck School District Board of Advisors and helping organize the Columbia University Extension Program, the North Shore Chapter of the Archaeological Society, and one of the first scholarly exchanges between the U.S. and China. Carol received her BA from the University of Pennsylvania and her MA in art history from Hofstra and Columbia University.
