Gustavo Faundez
Harvard Kennedy School
Master in Public Policy Candidate, 2026

Gustavo Faundez comes from Chile, a country that, despite having a significant increase in access to higher education in the past decades, remains highly unequal in terms of achieving quality trajectories at that level.  During his bachelor's in economics, and moved by that injustice, Gustavo co-founded "Sembrando un Sueño," a non-profit organization that improves the beliefs of over 3,000 students from disadvantaged backgrounds regarding their access to high-quality higher education programs, an endeavor in which, prior to entering ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø, he served as president of the board.  After graduating with his master's in applied economics, he participated in the planning and implementation of higher education admissions policies in his role at the Ministry of Education. This included multiple administrations of the nationwide standardized test, new mathematics tests, changing the scoring methodology, and introducing new quotas for women in STEM programs. This was done mainly through coordination with admission departments of universities and Chancellors in the decision-making processes.  Gustavo also has a great interest in academic work, serving as a research assistant in an investigation about an affirmative action policy for college admissions in Chile.  After graduation, he expects to lead high-impact policies in the government, head a non-profit organization focused on intergenerational mobility, or work in an NGO that fights inequality in poor or developing countries. In those roles, Gustavo hopes to transform people’s lives by implementing evidence-based innovative programs, with the highest sense of responsibility and academic rigor.
