Ms. Fong is Senior Managing Director of East West Bank.  California-based East West Bank is a wholly owned subsidiary of East West Bancorp, Inc., a publicly owned company in the United States.

As the region’s former Chief Representative of the 8th largest economy in the world, Ms. Fong was appointed by the California Governor to represent the State of California in Hong Kong SAR and China in January of 2000.  Through her former post as California’s Chief Representative from 2000-2004, Ms. Fong successfully established new economic, trade, and diplomatic ties between China and U.S.-based firms with benefits flowing both ways across the Pacific.

Ms. Fong has experience in managing cross-border transactions for U.S. and Chinese firms along with mergers and acquisitions activities and strategic business and legal advisory work as an international business attorney.  Ms. Fong was appointed by the  Former Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive to serve on the Commission for Strategic Development, an advisory body to assist the Chief Executive develop a framework pertaining to its longer term development plans.  Ms. Fong served on a 39-person Committee chaired by the Former Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive.  She is also a member of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government’s Women’s Leadership Board.

As a member of the California State Bar and the American Bar Association, Ms. Fong practiced corporate and international business law with a specialty in cross-border transactions and served as one of the early executives of two Silicon Valley startup companies.  Ms. Fong served as a Visiting Professor at Evergreen Valley College in California.  She has published and spoken on Asia-US business and policy matters before professional and international audiences. Ms. Fong served as former Advisor and Secretary-General to the China West Development Xi’an Development Committee and as former Chair of the Americas Committee of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.

She currently serves as an Advisor to ChinaSF, the China Office of the City and County of San Francisco, a Member of The Chi Tung Association of Hong Kong, on the Board of Governors of the Hong Kong-America Center, is a Member of The Hong Kong Tianjin Friendship Association and serves on the Asia Advisory Council for UCLA.
