Mary Carrington has been an intellectual property and global business transactions attorney in the technology industry for over 35 years. Recognized as a pioneer in the field of computer law, Carrington was one of the first attorneys to tackle the complex legal issues related to software technology by utilizing her background in computer science and mathematics. She served as senior executive and general counsel at MAI/Basic Four, State of the Art, Alpha Micro Systems, FileNet, and most recently, Websense. She was also associated with the law firm of Irell and Manella. Carrington has had hands-on responsibility for the integration, operations, and strategy of multinational legal departments, creating programs for international intellectual property (IP) protection. Carrington’s BS degree with honors and her JD degree are from the University of Texas. She is currently interested in the IP issues related to the commercialization of the human brain, creating a pilot for the Food Network, and co-authoring a project to “Find Your WORD.” In 1987, she founded the Carrington Collection which manufactures an assortment of her designs. She also is involved in her family’s hospitality businesses, the RK Group in Texas. Carrington is on the boards of the International Women’s Forum, Angels of the Arts, the Visionaries, South Coast Repertory, Oceana’s SeaChange benefit, L3, and Girls Inc. Carrington lives in Newport Beach, California with her husband, John Carrington, a software technology executive, currently the chair of Websense, Inc.
