
Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe is a philanthropist, entrepreneur, medical doctor, and current Chancellor of the University of Cape Town.
Through the Motsepe Foundation – one of the largest philanthropic organisations on the continent – she directly supports 12 of the 17 SDGs. Her philanthropic work contributes to poverty alleviation with a focus on investing in STEM basic and higher education; advocating for gender equality; promoting development through social entrepreneurship; and sponsoring sports and the arts for talented youth from disadvantaged communities.
The Foundation has partnerships with the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, Harvard Kennedy School, and the Maverick Collective – where Dr Moloi-Motsepe served as Co-Chair after Melinda Gates in 2019.
Through her company African Fashion International (AFI), Dr Moloi-Motsepe is leading a social and sustainable approach to fashion with a focus on empowering Africa’s women, creatives, and other small-businesses along the supply chain. AFI is an aggregator for the African industry and elevates Afro-centric luxury brands from seed to international recognition.
Dr Moloi-Motsepe was awarded the Fashion 4 Development Franca Sozzani Award in 2017 at the United Nations General Assembly in New York and serves as an advisor to the Global Fashion Agenda based in Copenhagen.
She is recognised as one of the 50 most powerful women on the continent by Forbes Africa.
