Hannah Riley Bowles, the Roy E. Larsen Senior Lecturer in Public Policy and Management at Harvard Kennedy School, has won the 2020 Rosabeth Moss Kanter Award for Excellence in Work-Family Research. The award recognizes her paper “,” coauthored with Bobbi Thomason of Pepperdine University and Julia B. Bear of Stony Brook University.
The award was announced today at the Work & Family Researchers Network Conference by the Center for Families at Purdue University and the Boston College Center for Work & Family, which have given the award annually since 2000. Bowles will discuss her research in a keynote presentation at the Boston College Workforce Roundtable Meeting on May 20, 2021.
Bowles co-directs the Kennedy School’s Women and Public Policy Program. She is a leading expert on gender in negotiation, focusing on the role of negotiation in career advancement and the management of work-family conflict. She has a DBA from Harvard Business School, an MPP from Harvard Kennedy School, and a BA from Smith College.
The award is named in honor of Rosabeth Moss Kanter, the Ernest L. Arbuckle Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School. She has been identified as the most influential contributor to modern literature on work and family. The four finalist articles were selected by a committee of 85 international scholars from more than 2,500 articles published in 2019 in over 80 leading English-language journals from around the world.
