The Carr Center collaborates with Harvard faculty, fellows, and students to address global human rights issues. Our programs aim to educate future leaders worldwide in human rights policy and practice. The Carr Center's mission is to educate the next generation of leaders from around the world in human rights policy and practice, while providing policy-relevant knowledge to international organizations, governments, policymakers, and businesses.

 

How will technological advancements affect the future of human rights? Our Technology and Human Rights Program explores how technology can move the human rights agenda forward—and how technology can undermine human rights efforts.

 

How can we reimagine systems, institutions, and movements to promote racial and economic equity for all? Our Racial Justice Fellows research how social movements, intersectionality, technology, and more can help to promote a more equal future. 

 

How can transitional justice mechanisms provide accountability for international crimes and begin the important steps towards rebuilding? The Transitional Justice team builds data on conflict management, peace-building, and atrocity prevention. 

 

We stand at a critical crossroads for the global LGBTQI+ community. The Carr Center's Global LGBTQI+ Human Rights Program empowers movement leaders through transformative trainings, high-impact research, and creating platforms for influential dialogue.

 

What are the rights and responsibilities that define the relationship of people to the government—and to each other? The Carr Center's Reimagining Rights & Responsibilities Project conducted two national surveys to collect data on the state of rights in the U.S.

 

How can we protect and support human rights defenders worldwide? Frontline human rights defenders—those seeking to protect and promote the rights of vulnerable and marginalized communities in the face of repression—are increasingly under attack around the world.
