Carr Center Senior Fellow Justice Luís Roberto Barroso has been elected as the chief justice of the Brazilian Supreme Court, reported in Eurasia Review.

Justice Barroso was elected as the chief justice of the Brazilian Supreme Court on Wednesday, August 9, and is scheduled to formally assume office on September 28. He is currently serving as vice chief justice; he will be taking over the position from Justice Rosa Weber as she approaches the compulsory retirement age of 75 in September.
