-Understanding and mitigating the impacts of disruptions such as pandemics, conflicts, and displacement on educational outcomes and human capital development.
-Mental health interventions within educational contexts, particularly addressing how integrated mental health and psychosocial support can enhance resilience, equity, and long-term opportunities for vulnerable populations.
My research focuses on investigating interventions that can mitigate the negative impacts of these major disruptions. Specifically, I examine how targeted educational and mental health interventions can enhance the overall well-being of students and improve their long-term educational choices and economic prospects. Well-designed interventions, such as individualized tutoring programs, enhanced curricula, and integrated mental health support, are likely to reduce the adverse effects of educational disruptions and promote resilience and equity among affected populations.
I employ a range of methodological approaches, including quasi-experimental designs and large-scale randomized controlled trials, to design and evaluate interventions aimed at providing evidence-based recommendations that support vulnerable populations and contribute to the development of adaptive and inclusive educational systems. My work spans diverse geographic settings, including Chile, Armenia, and Ukraine, each chosen for their unique contexts of educational disruption and recovery efforts.
Last semester, I co-authored a book chapter about pandemic disruptions in Chile with Prof. Emiliana Vegas. We examined how prolonged school closures affected student learning, attendance, and overall educational outcomes in Chile, the nation with the longest period of school closures among OECD countries.
