About the program

The Senior Fellows Program at the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government brings together experienced professionals with over 20 years in government and business

Fellows work on research projects to tackle global challenges at the intersection of business and government. Their work results in working papers, journal articles, or books, with world-class support from the center’s resources. This program focuses on finding new ideas and solutions for important issues in policy and industry.

Appointment details

  • Appointments are for one year; extensions for a second year are considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Appointments are unpaid
     

How to apply

In order to apply, please visit our and submit the following information:

  • A well-developed research proposal (1800-4000 words), which should include:
    • The title of your project
    • A thoughtful and well-developed description of the problem you wish to tackle
    • Your anticipated research methods and deliverable(s)
    • An explanation of how your background makes you a good person to address this problem
    • Mention of your ability and preparedness to lead two or more hour-long study groups during the year (Our study groups are discussion-centered meetings with students on some aspect of your research topic)
    • The frequency you are you able to be on campus at Harvard
  • Your CV
  • Optional: Examples of prior writing projects

What we look for in an application

  • You must have at least 20 years of experience for consideration as a senior fellow.
  • Your research interests must closely match those of one or more M-RCBG-affiliated faculty.
  • You must be able to come to campus to participate in the life of the Center by attending seminars, lunches, and conferences and participating in student activities, and to complete a substantial writing project during your time at the center.

    2025–2026 Senior Fellow appointments end. 
     

  • September

    First on-campus Senior Fellows meeting. 

  • July 1

    New Senior Fellows begin their appointments.

  • March 3

    Application deadline for the 2025–2026 academic year.

  • January 2

    Applications open for the for the 2025–2026 academic year.

Program expectations

Research Project

Senior Fellows undertake a research project that culminates in a working paper, a journal article or, in rare cases, a book.

Senior Fellow-Led Study Groups

All Senior Fellows must offer study groups for Harvard students on a topic of their choice. M-RCBG  Senior Fellow-Led Study Groups are in-person discussion sessions open to Harvard Kennedy School students and HUID holders.

On-Campus Presence

Senior Fellows must attend four annual research meetings to present and discuss their progress with peers and mentors. They must be on campus at least three weeks per semester, preferably more, during class sessions (September–early December and late January–April) to engage with students and the Center community.
