Simone Matecna graduated from the University of California Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Peace and Conflict Studies in 2020. Previously, Simone worked on a project in Chile to investigate the effects of funding on municipal transparency levels. At Berkeley, Simone carried out a randomized controlled experiment, working with local school districts to evaluate the impact of a primary caregiver’s payday on the cognitive function of small children. Her senior thesis, “Financial Constraints on Student Learning: An Analysis of How Financial Stress Influences Cognitive Function in Children”, sparked her current research interests in education and health economics.

Outside of Economics, Simone enjoys dabbling in artwork and spending time outdoors.
