Study Group with Ann Simmons: Repression Run Amok

Study Group with Ann Simmons: Repression Run Amok

Russian opposition politicians, journalists, human rights activists have been barred from running in elections, jailed and forced into exile. But it's actually ordinary Russians have also borne the brunt of President Vladimir Putin’s repression. The intolerance has reached new heights with protests essentially banned and severe punishment meted out for even the most innocuous actions, such as displaying a peace symbol. How can a cowed population reclaim its power and push for an end to Putin’s autocracy and his war on Ukraine amid an escalating tightening of the screws on civil liberties and at a time when the Russian President feels emboldened to continue with his exploits on the world stage.
