The Limits of Human Rights
2020
Abstract
Human rights are the result of hard fought political and social struggles in the past and in the current moment. Those who equate human rights discourse or law as the expression of interests of powerful states misunderstand this crucial aspect of human rights history. The movement for the international protection of human rights was far more diverse than the United States and Western Europe, including many states and activists from the Global South.
