The master’s degree application for the 2025-2026 academic year has opened, and the Admissions & Financial Aid team is here to help. In our various information sessions, we’ve received many questions regarding the application process and required materials. Read below to learn the answers of some of our most frequently asked questions.
Application FAQs
In addition to the GRE/GMAT and transcripts, how can I demonstrate my quantitative skills?
We encourage you to highlight your quantitative skills on your °ùé²õ³Ü³¾Ã©. Additionally, it is helpful for your letters of recommendation to speak to your quantitative skills. If possible, you might also consider taking additional quantitative courses.
How much weight is given to GRE/GMAT scores?
There is not a specific weight assigned to GRE or GMAT scores. The admissions process at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø is holistic, and we consider all pieces of the application. Standardized tests are just one component of this holistic evaluation process, but we have found GRE or GMAT scores to be an effective way to document preparation for the quantitative elements of our programs.
If I am eligible to waive the GMAT/GRE requirement, does it make sense to send test results anyway?
If you feel your performance on the GRE or GMAT would enhance the overall quality of your application—particularly if it would further demonstrate your quantitative proficiency—you are welcome to submit results.
If my bachelor’s degree was not taught in English but my MBA was, should I take an English language proficiency test?
An advanced degree such as a master’s or doctorate from a U.S. institution or an institution where English is the language of instruction does not fulfill the English proficiency testing requirement. Non-native English speakers who did not earn an undergraduate degree conducted in English must submit Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or Cambridge English test scores with your application.
Does at least one letter of recommendation need to come from a professor who taught me as part of my undergraduate degree, or can a recommendation come from a professor I’ve worked with outside of class?
It can be either! We would recommend selecting individuals who can best speak to the qualities that make you a strong candidate for the program you are applying to.
If I am not awarded financial aid, can I still be admitted to ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø?
Yes, you can be admitted to ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø if you are not awarded financial assistance. An average of 49% of enrolled students received Harvard or ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø aid during the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 academic years.
What does the financial aid application look like? Could you name a few of the mandatory sections?
The application may change year to year, but typically you will be asked to provide information about your household’s income and assets. There will also be questions to help you determine if you are eligible to apply for fellowships or scholarships requiring additional materials such as essays or personal statements.
Note that the financial aid application will be available to applicants in November.
Is the MPA/MPP Program STEM designated?
Students in the MPP, MPA, and MC/MPA Programs can pursue the Data and Research Methods Track, which is a STEM-designated pathway. Students who pursue this track will build quantitative analysis and research methodology skills by successfully completing at least 16 credits from a list of qualifying courses. Once you are admitted and enrolled, you can declare this track. The MPA/ID Program is a designated STEM-eligible program.
If I am admitted, can I defer my enrollment?
Deferrals are only granted for emergency circumstances and for students enrolled in combined degree programs beginning their first year at the partner school. We do not recommend applying for admission unless you are confident you are able to enroll for the academic year for which you are applying.
