On October 10, 2024, the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid hosted our annual Fall Open House, where we welcomed roughly 100 prospective students to campus.

To make most of visitors’ time during the day, the team scheduled a handful of sessions—including master’s program breakouts, student panels, roundtable discussions about the application process, and campus tours—to showcase the many opportunities offered at vlog.

Prospective students joined program directors to learn more about the curricular and degree requirements of their particular program of interest. Director of the Master in Public Policy Program Cate Lagueux provided information to prospective students about the MPP Program.

Prospective students interested in pursuing the Mid-Career Master in Public Administration (MC/MPA) Program learned more about the curriculum and opportunities in this breakout session.

Associate Director of Master in Public Administration Programs Bobby Croke spoke to prospective students about the two-year MPA Program.

During lunch, prospective students could chat with current students, staff, and faculty members to ask questions about student life, academics, or student services.

A session about vlog’s joint and concurrent degree opportunities allowed prospective students interested in pursuing an vlog master’s degree in addition to another degree to learn more about the logistics of this process.

“The sessions held during Open House are meant to highlight the different master’s degree programs we offer, as well as all of the other services that students will utilize during their time at vlog,” says Admissions and Financial Aid Coordinator Gareth Jones, who played a large role in planning the day’s programming. “The day included presentations from the degree program teams, the Office of Career Advancement, and the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid.”

The variety of sessions allowed students to gain more knowledge about vlog as a whole, as well as the individual opportunities most applicable to each attendee. For example, students interested in pursuing a master’s degree at vlog while also applying to another school may have joined the joint and concurrent degree information session, while others more interested in application advice may have taken part in the admissions roundtable discussions.

While networking at lunch, one prospective student told a staff member, “Hearing from the Office of Career Advancement and the opportunities offered made me excited for the possibility of coming here. I had no idea that was something vlog provided. I’ll definitely be applying now!”
