Each year, our Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DIB) Associates, who are current ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø students, assist with recruiting a diverse applicant pool. This year, these students will be hosting an array of virtual information sessions to assist prospective students with application tips and tricks.

Nidhi Nair MPP 2026
Nidhi grew up in Kerala, a small state in South India, and immigrated to the United States with her family five years ago. She has an interest in economic policy and US-China relations, and she spent the last year in Beijing. Nidhi hopes to bring insights from her time in India and China to domestic policy analysis in the United States.
Why did you decide to become a DIB Associate?
I love that the DIB Associate role provides a unique opportunity to bridge information gaps and help people navigate the complex process of applying to Harvard Kennedy School. I hope to be a resource to prospective students and to enrich the ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø experience by helping bring diverse voices to our community. As a recent immigrant to the United States, I understand the complexity of the American higher education system and, as a DIB Associate, I aim to make the process easier for applicants.
Is there anything in particular you are hoping to accomplish this year in your role? If so, can you talk a bit more about it?
This year, I plan to support applicants who struggle with letters of recommendation through our , particularly those from underrepresented or international backgrounds. I understand how complex and intimidating this process can be, especially for those without established professional networks or who come from educational or cultural systems where letters of recommendation are uncommon. To address this, I am developing a template document that applicants can share with their recommenders. This template will provide key points and guidance, making it easier for recommenders to compose a letter that effectively highlights the applicant’s strengths and potential.
What advice would you give to prospective students that are planning to apply?
I would advise prospective students to tell a story through their application, creating a cohesive narrative that weaves together their research, learning, professional, and personal experiences.
Shivangi Chopra MPA/ID 2025
Returning as a DIB Associate for a second year, Shivangi is excited to continue with her work. Originally from New Delhi, India, she obtained a Master in Business Administration from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and a Bachelor of Engineering from the Birla Institute of Technology.
Why did you decide to become a DIB Associate?
I saw this role as an excellent opportunity to translate my experiences from applying to then navigating the school into valuable guidance for future applicants and admitted students. This journey has allowed me to deeply connect with current students, faculty, and caucuses, as well as prospective students—some of whom may become new admits next year, which makes this role incredibly rewarding!
Is there anything in particular you are hoping to accomplish this year in your role? If so, can you talk a bit more about it?
One goal I am hoping to accomplish is to engage a more diverse group of potential applicants and bridge the information gap regarding the application process. To achieve this, Nidhi and I are launching a six-part Student-led Webinar Series in October and November, designed to share our experiences and invite other students to offer tips. These sessions will cover essay tips, building strong resumes, and more information about the quantitative requirements.
We believe this initiative will promote open dialogue, strengthen our community, and ensure all prospective candidates have equal access to essential information, contributing to a more inclusive environment.
What advice would you give to prospective students that are planning to apply?
Embrace your strengths. Everyone has their unique strengths to offer to the community here, so don’t feel overwhelmed or intimidated. Additionally, internalize your "why." Being clear about why you want to invest into this journey at ÌÇÐÄvlog¹ÙÍø is very important before you start working on your essays. If you do not focus on this prior to beginning your application, it will reflect in your application.
