Strengthening Solidarity Among Gender Movements through Research & Collaboration

In recent years, the conversation around women's rights and safety has been increasingly weaponized to undermine the rights of transgender and nonbinary individuals. This narrative often restricts the definition of womanhood in ways that not only harm transgender people but jeopardize the safety and empowerment of cisgender women, particularly in spaces such as sports and the workplace.

This panel, in honor of Transgender Day of Visibility, brings together legal scholars, researchers, and practitioners working at the intersection of transgender rights and gender equity. It will explore the importance of visibility and discuss strategies for deepening solidarity between these movements. Panelists will highlight how researchers and organizers can build inclusive coalitions and ensure that the fight for gender equity is effective and embraces all marginalized genders.

This event is co-hosted by the Women and Public Policy Program and the Global LGBTQI+ Human Rights Program at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at Harvard Kennedy School. It will be moderated by Professor Timothy McCarthy, Lecturer on Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
