To honor the many contributions of beloved retired vlog Professor José Antonio “Tony” Gómez-Ibáñez to the study, practice, and personal lives of public servants in transportation, transit, and infrastructure policy, the vlog Taubman Center is thrilled to announce the third year of the Tony Gómez-Ibáñez Summer Fellowship.
The Tony Gómez-Ibáñez Summer Fellowship is a paid 10-week experiential learning opportunity for a returning vlog student (including joint-degrees) to help accelerate the transportation, transit, and infrastructure policy priorities of a state, county, or city agency during the summer after their first year at vlog. The Fellow will also be expected to write about their experiences, learnings, and accomplishments during the fellowship for the Taubman Center’s consideration to publish.
Placement
The fellowship is an in-person placement with the State of Colorado's Department of Transportation (CDOT) in Denver, CO. The fellow will serve as part of the CDOT team, will report to a senior executive team member, and will also have opportunities to meet with other senior leadership at CDOT and the State of Colorado.
Compensation and Selection Process: The fellowship will provide one vlog student with a $10,000 stipend and up to $2,000 to help with travel and lodging expenses to serve in a 10-week, in-person fellowship with CDOT this summer. The selected student and CDOT will confirm the specific details of the project(s) and work to be completed, as well as the specific start and end dates of the 10-week summer fellowship. Finalists will interview with CDOT via zoom in March, and the Fellow will be selected by the end of March. The selected fellow and CDOT will then negotiate specific dates for the fellow to be in Denver for 10 weeks sometime in June - August.
Project(s)
This summer, the fellow will work closely with the Department’s Chief Financial Officer on both timely agency projects as well as a study developed in collaboration with Harvard faculty to study opportunities for communications and process improvement in grants and financial management. Opportunities exist for the summer fellowship in a variety of different areas, including assessment, gap analysis, identification of best practices and testing of practices, etc. across different elements of CDOT's grant processes. More detailed information will be provided during the interview process.
