WHO: Christopher Robichaud, Lecturer in Ethics and Public Policy
WHERE: DPI-201: The Responsibilities of Public Action
WHAT:
Liberty Hospital Simulation: a two-class sequence (one for simulation exercise itself, one for debrief discussion) on allocating scarce resources in a crisis. Students play members of a hospital’s ethics committee, and are forced to make difficult decisions in dire circumstances about who is given what forms of support, and rationales for doing so.
WHY:
- Enhance student skills in negotiation and adaptive leadership
- Incorporate insights from moral psychology into simulations
- Create materials to enable other faculty to use in their ethics or other courses
- Gauge student work in ethics course more broadly, to assess their progress in making better ethical judgments
